The Ensor Academy proudly announces the nominees for The Ensors 2026. The winners will be revealed on Saturday, February 7, during the Ensor Awards Gala, held on the closing night of Film Festival Ostend (FFO). The awards celebrate the very best in Flemish fiction, documentary and animation from the past year.
Over the past weeks, the 2,647 members of the Ensor Academy screened dozens of productions from the longlist and selected five nominees in 19 categories. The nominations for documentary and short film were compiled by a professional jury.
Competition among fiction series was particularly strong. Putain and How To Kill Your Sister lead the field with 13 nominations each, followed by This Is Not a Murder Mystery with 8 nominations. De big fuck-up (6 nominations), Oh, Otto! and Roomies 2 (5 nominations each) also made an impression.
In the film categories, Young Hearts and Julian emerge as frontrunners with 8 nominations each. Têtes brûlées follows with 4 nominations, while Soft Leaves and BXL each receive 3 nominations. Ferry 2, Comeback and Patsers are nominated in two categories each.
The second and final voting round runs until Tuesday, January 27. During this period, The Ensor Academy will determine who ultimately takes home an Ensor.
A number of awards are decided by external juries. The board of the Ensor Awards selects the winners of the Impact Award (supported by Nationale Loterij), International Achievement of the Year (Albert Bert Award), Breakthrough of the Year (supported by BNP Paribas Fortis), Best French-language Belgian Film and Best Co-production. Film Festival Ostend awards the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Film fans can also participate in selecting the Telenet Audience Award winner. Public voting opens Friday, January 9 and runs through January 30 at www.telenet.be/ensors. The eligible films are: ‘BXL’, ‘Comeback’, ‘Ferry 2’, ‘Julian’, ‘Nachtvlinders’, ‘Patsers’, ‘Soft Leaves’, ‘Team Spirit NXT GEN’, ‘Têtes brûlées’ en ‘Young Hearts’.
On Saturday 7 February 2026, the red carpet will be rolled out at the COREtec Dôme for the Ensor Awards Gala, the festive closing event of Film Festival Ostend. Fatma Taspinar and Xavier Taveirne return as hosts for an evening celebrating creators, talent and stories. New this year: for the first time, the Ensor Awards will also be open to the general public, allowing everyone to experience the excitement, glamour and magic from the front row.
